The award-winning film Between Us that’s been winning universal praise for its ensemble cast (with “career-best” performances by Taye Diggs, Melissa George, David Harbour and Julia Stiles), is finally available to everyone! The movie is now available throughout North America on DVD and digital download! Due to popular demand, Amazon already sold out of DVDs on the first day of availability (no doubt in part to President Obama’s visit to an Amazon warehouse in Chatanooga). Note that the DVD has over 40 minutes of exclusive bonus footage plus a commentary track by director Dan Mirvish, cinematographer Nancy Schreiber, ASC, and playwright Joe Hortua.
Even if you’ve already seen the film (and liked it!), please review and/or rate the movie on these sights, or at IMDb. Check your neighborhood video store or go to:

Our own director Dan Mirvish just wrote his sixth consecutive article for Filmmaker Magazine focussing this time on the art and strategy of how to adapt plays and books into independent movies. Naturally, he focusses on Between Us as an object lesson in how to do an adaptation well (Between Us, of course, based on the hit Off-Broadway play by Joe Hortua, with the screenplay written by Joe and Dan). The article, “Adapt or Die: 13 Steps to Adapting a Film from Something Else” is the sixth such piece Dan has written for Filmmaker Magazine in the last several months. The others include:
13 Ways to Cast A-List Actors in Microbudget Films
8 Rules on Being a Locavore Filmmaker
Toronto, Tschmonto: 12 Steps to a Saner Festival Strategy
12 Steps to Avoid Going Broke Applying to Film Festivals
What Opera and Sharknado Can Teach Independent Film
And in a nice coincidence (hmmm, or is it?), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (yes, the Oscar folks) just called and requested that we submit a copy of the script for their permanent collection. It’s an honor just to be collected!
Don’t forget: Between Us is now available on VOD, iTunes, Netflix (DVD only for now), Amazon (streaming & DVD) and many other places!Read More..
Bugeater Films recently announced that its award-winning film “Between Us”, is available now on Netflix exclusively in its original “Directors Cut” on High Definition. The award-winning film directed by Dan Mirvish stars Taye Diggs, Melissa George, David Harbour and Julia Stiles, and is based on Joe Hortua’s hit Off-Broadway play of the same name. The film played at 23 festivals in 7 countries, winning awards ranging from the Grand Jury Prize at the Bahamas International Film Festival, to a Best Actor prize for David Harbour at the Woods Hole Film Festival. The film had a 50+ city US theatrical release through Monterey Media, and is currently airing on Showtime and Starz networks.
“I’m very grateful to Ted Sarandos and his team for giving us all a chance to finally see the film in the original director’s cut,” said director Dan Mirvish, also a co-founder of the Slamdance Film Festival. “I’ve known Ted since Netflix consisted of a little three-person bungalow office on the Raleigh Lot in Hollywood. They’ve come a long way since then, and I’m glad still to be a part of the Netflix family.”
“This is the version of the film as it was meant to be seen,” Mirvish added. “Netflix has also taken a really creative and comprehensive approach to their subtitled option, which will make the film accessible for both those with hearing impairments, and also those who don’t want to disturb their spouse while watching at bedtime. Given the nature of the film, that could save a lot of marriages.”
A critically-acclaimed film, “Between Us” has been described as “a sleeper hit” by The Hollywood Reporter, “powerful and brilliant” by Buzzfeed, and “absolutely stunning” by FilmThreat. Mirvish garnered particular praise with favorable comparisons to John Cassavetes, Roman Polanski and Robert Altman. The four-person cast were universally praised for their searing performances and all received several career-best reviews. “Between Us” is a darkly comedic drama about two couples who reunite over the course of two incendiary evenings where anything can happen.
The play originally premiered at Manhattan Theatre Club, and the film had its world premiere at the Oldenburg Film Festival in Germany, and its North American premiere at the Hamptons International Film Festival. “Between Us” was also the Closing Night Film at the 50th Gijon International Film Festival in Spain.Read More..
