“Between Us” Wins Bahamas International Film Festival
Grand Jury Prize Caps 7-country, 14-fest Fall Run

Nassau, Bahamas — Dan Mirvish’s new film “Between Us” won the grand jury prize (”Spirit of Freedom Narrative”) at the recent Bahamas International Film Festival.  The film stars Julia Stiles, Taye Diggs, Melissa George and David Harbour in an adaptation of the hit Off-Broadway play by Joe Hortua.  Director and co-screenwriter Mirvish accepted the award on behalf of the cast and crew at a ceremony at the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island in the Bahamas on Sunday.

“I’m stunned,” said Mirvish. “This is an amazing finish to our whirlwind fall festival tour.”  Since September, “Between Us” has screened in 14 international film festivals in 7 countries, including the Closing Night film at the 50th Annual Gijon International Film Festival in Spain.  Other festivals included premieres in Athens (Greece), Brisbane (Australia), Oldenburg (Germany), Whistler (Canada), a double North American premiere at the Hamptons and Woodstock Film Festivals, and official selections at the Napa Valley, IndieMemphis, Virginia, St. Louis and Anchorage International Film Festivals.  Several more festivals are already scheduled for Spring, 2013.

“It’s an honor to get this award with such tremendous international films in competition here in the Bahamas,” said Mirvish.  The Spirit of Freedom section at the 9th Annual Bahamas International Film Festival included films from the US, France, Italy, Gaza, Bangladesh and Ghana.  The awards ceremony was immediately followed by the Closing Night film “The Sapphires” presented by the Weinstein Company.  In addition to screening “Between Us,” Mirvish also taught a three-hour directing master class at the festival.
