“Between Us” Will Screen in Slamdance
Out-of-Competition for Festival Founder

Park City, Utah — Dan Mirvish’s new award-winning film “Between Us” will screen at the upcoming 19th Annual Slamdance International Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on January 20, 2013.  Slamdance runs concurrent with the Sundance Film Festival, and was co-founded by Mirvish himself.  “Between Us” stars Julia Stiles, Taye Diggs, Melissa George and David Harbour, and is an adaptation of the hit Off-Broadway play by Joe Hortua.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to screen at Slamdance” said Mirvish. “The festival motto has always been ‘by filmmakers, for filmmakers’ and it’s nice for the new filmmakers to see that the people running the festival are still making movies like them.”  Since September, “Between Us” has screened in 14 international film festivals in 7 countries, including winning the grand jury prize at the Bahamas International Film Festival in December and being the Closing Night film at the 50th Annual Gijon International Film Festival in Spain.  Other festivals included premieres in Athens (Greece), Brisbane (Australia), Oldenburg (Germany), Whistler (Canada), a double North American premiere at the Hamptons and Woodstock Film Festivals, and official selections at the Napa Valley, IndieMemphis, Virginia, St. Louis and Anchorage International Film Festivals.

Mirvish co-founded Slamdance in 1995 with his first film, “Omaha (the movie).” Since then, the festival, who’s feature competition is for first-time directors only, has been a launching pad for such filmmakers as Christopher Nolan, Benh Zeitlin, Lena Dunham, Greg Mottola, Lynn Shelton, Jared Hess, Drake Doremus and many others who showed their first films at the festival.  “Slamdance has always been a community of filmmakers, and ‘Between Us’ was made largely on the strength of the relationships and friends I’ve found through Slamdance,” said Mirvish.  “From meeting my cinematographer Nancy Schreiber at a Slamdance coffee with Vilmos Zsigmond, to having Slamdancers on the crew and as Kickstarter backers, it really has been a Slamdance film in the truest sense.”

“Between Us” is a dark ensemble comedy exploring the bittersweet friendship between two couples who meet as old friends and discover their lives are tarnished by money, sex, success and children.  It was produced by Mirvish, Hans Ritter (”Hello, I Must Be Going,” “Sound of My Voice”) and Mike S. Ryan (”The Comedy”, “Junebug”), and executive produced by Brent Stiefel.  The cinematographer was Nancy Schreiber, ASC, and the movie was edited by Dean Gonzalez.  “Between Us” is repped for North American distribution by ICM Partners, and internationally by Premiere Entertainment.
